About Me:

I am a first-year university student at the University of Central Florida with a pre-nursing major. I hope to join the University of Central Florida's prestigious BSN Nursing Program in the following year. I decided to join the pre-nursing program because I wanted to be a part of a group of people who put their life on the line in order to help others heal or prevent serious health issues from developing over time. In this field like many other fields, the diversity of its workforce is low which can cause an issue when serving minority groups such as mine; Hispanic/Latino. This is why I decided to use the background picture which portrays a Mexican street decorated in the traditional "papel picado". My Hispanic/Latino background has always intrigued especially because my parents are also indigenous Mexicans. I have also ways felt like the Hispanic/Latino culture wasn't represented in the media or the entertainment industry until recently.

Purpose:

In recent years a couple of main stream film producers decided to start showcasing different cultures including the Hispanic culture. Many scholarly professionals and everyday individual has differing opinions when it came to culture being presented in a entertainment format such as in films. some believed that it would represent the cultures in a negative way while others believed that cultural use in films would help increase cultural knowledge amongst and audience. In this research I decided to analyze "cultural use and its portrayal in films/movies using the rhetorical element knowledge-making with a focus on audience and the rhetor. In order to accomplish this  I focused on two Disney films in specific: "Encanto and "COCO" due to its use of the Hispanic/ Latino culture. In order to share understand how i was able to do this research I must first take you to the beginning of my research process.
